Roberto Merhi

Roberto Merhi Muntan (* March 22, 1991 in Castellon de la Plana ) is a Spanish racing driver. He won the 2011 championship of the Formula 3 Euro Series and the FIA Formula 3 Trophy. Since 2012 he starts in the DTM.

Career

With eight years Merhi in 1999 began his career in karting, where he was active until 2006. The end of 2006 makes Merhi his first experience in Formula racing with two races in the Spanish Formula 3 Championship. In the following winter he went in the winter series of the Italian Formula Renault at the start and was third in the overall standings. Merhi was started in 2007 in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and finished 18th overall. In the Italian Formula Renault, in which was also active, it was better for Merhi: With a win, he finished the season fourth overall. In addition, he participated in the Spanish Formula 3 race, the Italian Formula Renault Winter Series and the Spanish GT Championship at the start. 2008 Merhi joined Epsilon Euskadi and launched both in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, where he finished fourth overall, and in the Western European Formula Renault, in which won the runner-up title. In addition, Merhi started at five races of the Spanish Formula 3, of which he chose two races for themselves.

2009 drove Merhi for Manor Motorsport in the Formula 3 Euro Series. After he has given with two second places in the first two race weekends a strong debut, he scored two additional podium finishes in the rest of the season. At the end of the season, he finished seventh in the overall standings. After Manor Motorsport had withdrawn from the Formula 3 Euro Series at the end of the season, Merhi joined Mücke Motorsport, for which he took up in the 2010 season. In Sunday's race the second race weekend at Hockenheim Merhi achieved his first victory in the Formula 3 Euro Series. At the end of the season, he finished fifth overall. He also appeared in the third race weekend of the 2010 season in the GP3 Series for ATECH CRS GP. Having already at the first race in third place for the first time on the podium, he took the end of the season with two second places as the best results in sixth place overall. He was also the only driver of his team, who scored points. 2011 graduated Merhi for the Prema Powerteam as team-mate Daniel Juncadella his third season in the Formula 3 Euro Series. From 27 races he chose 11 for himself and secured a race weekend before the end of the title early. With 406 to 285 points, he won the duel against Marco Wittmann. In addition, Merhi was 2011 points right in the FIA ​​Formula 3 Trophy. This he won early with four wins from eight races. 2012, Merhi decided against further involvement in Formula racing, although he had an offer from GP2 team Racing Engineering. He moved to touring car racing in the DTM. There he received for the 2012 season, a cockpit with Persson Motorsport in the DTM AMG Mercedes C-Coupé. An eleventh place was his best result. In addition, he once drove the fastest lap. 2013 moved Merhi within the Mercedes DTM team to HWA after Persson Motorsport had gotten from the DTM. At the season opener, he scored his first points in tenth. At the Norisring, he was seventh. At the last race in Hockenheim with a second place finish he achieved his first podium placement. Merhi had gone from 21 into the race and had been occupied for a jump start with a drive-through penalty, but managed to drive him under rainy conditions to the front. At the end of the season, he finished 15th overall.
