Castillo is a city in the east of Uruguay.

Geography

Castillo is located in the eastern part of the department of Rocha in the sector 5 Other settlements in the area are about a kilometer southeast of Castillo's lying Barrio Torres and the east-northeast located in each several kilometers away in the Southern Atlantic Coast of La Esmeralda, and southeast of Aguas Dulces. History

The city was founded on April 19, 1866 with simultaneous laying of the cornerstone of the local chapel under the name of San Vicente Mártir de Castillos. On November 3, 1952 Castillo was granted the status of " city " by Law No. 11,875.
