Catacamas

Catacamas is a city in Honduras. It is located 210 km east of Tegucigalpa in the department of Olancho in the so-called Valle de Olancho. The city lies 450 meters above sea level and 2010 had 44 198 inhabitants.

Northeast of Catacamas is Dulce Nombre de Culmí, west is Juticalpa ( about 30 min by car). To the north is separated by a mountain range of San Esteban. About 5 km east of the city runs the Rio Talgua that leads to the caves of Talgua. Surrounded by the city of Rio Catacamas flows in the western part of the city, which also serves as the main source for water supply.

The crime and murder rate in Catacamas is high.
