Catanduva is a Brazilian city in the state of São Paulo. It has just over 112,000 inhabitants.

Location

Catanduva located in the northeast of the state of São Paulo and in this area is the second largest city. In the micro-region around Catanduva 221 465 inhabitants living in an area of 2,283.6 km ². The capital, São Paulo is located about 385 km away.

History

The story Catanduvas can be traced back to the mid -19th century. Beginning of the 20th century, the little town by the name Cerradinho known. On April 16, 1909, the district of Vila Adolpho was launched. On 14 April 1918 the present city Catanduva arose.

The city's name evolved from the name Caa tã - Dyba from the Tupi- Guarani languages ​​, this refers to the typical Cerrado savannah and means as much as " unhealthy vegetation ."

On 23 December 2000, Pope John Paul II, the diocese Catanduva and imputed it to the Archdiocese of Ribeirão Preto.
