Cattenstedt is a district of the town of Blankenburg (Harz ) in the district of Harz, in Saxony- Anhalt.
Geographical Location
Cattenstedt is located in the northern Harz southeast of the town of Blankenburg (Harz ), on the main road 81, which continues south towards Hasselfelde. Northeast of the village extends the nature reserve and tourist destination Devil's Wall. By Cattenstedt flows the Jordan river.
History
Cattenstedt was first mentioned in 1199 as the seat of Burcadus de Cattenstede. Representatives of this noble family are documented to 1287 at the manor in place detectable. Already in 1204 a chapel, the predecessor of the St. Martin's Church, and a mill in the village is mentioned. The St. Martin's Church was at first only a fortified church and was only later extended.
