Heimburg is a district of the town of Blankenburg (Harz ) in the district of Harz, in Saxony- Anhalt.

Geographical Location

Heimburg is located on the northern Harz, about 5 km north- west of the main town of Blankenburg (Harz ) on the old course of the federal highway 6 towards Wernigerode.

Just north of the village is a hill on which the ruins of the former castle Heimburg, also called Altenburg, and a viewpoint located. History

The local castle was first mentioned in 1073, the resulting at its foot Nationals settlement 1256th After the loss of several generations lasting feud between Heimburg and Regenstein took over the Count of Regenstein Castle Heimburg. Heimburg belonged until 1945 as Brunswick County Blankenburg and came in 1952 to the county of Wernigerode in the district of Magdeburg. Since the entry into force of the district reform on 1 July 2007 Heimburg belongs to the district of Harz.

On 1 January 2010, until then independent municipality Heimburg together with the communities Cattenstedt, Hüttenrode, Wienrode and Timmenrode and the City of Their castle in the town of Blankenburg (Harz ) was incorporated.
