Caviano

Caviano was, until April 24, 2010 a municipality in the district Gambarogno, in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

Geography

It is located on the Riviera del Gambarogno, the steep eastern shore of Lake Maggiore, on the Swiss- Italian border, 274 m above sea level Caviano consists of the districts Caviano, Scaiano, Dirinella ( with the border station to Italy) and Monti di Caviano.

Fusion community

On 25 November 2007, the merger of the nine communities on the south shore of Lake Maggiore to the municipality Gambarogno was approved by the voters of eight municipalities: Caviano, contone, Gerra (Gambarogno ) Indemini, Magadino, Ascona, Sant'Abbondio and Vira ( Gambarogno).
