CB Cantabria Santander ( Cantabria Club Balonmano Santander ) is a Spanish handball club from Santander ( Cantabria landscape ).

Until the 2007/ 08 season CB Cantabria competed in the Spanish league ASOBAL.

History

The club was founded in 1975 as Grupo Santander Deportivo Teka from the already existing clubs La Salle- Authi and Clubasa (Club Balonmano Santander). In 1983 the club was promoted to the league and took ASOBAL 1984/85 the first time at the European Cup Winners' Cup in part. Since the Cantabria belonged to the absolute top teams in Europe, in 1993 they won the EHF Cup and the 1990 and 1998 European Cup Winners' Cup.

As early as 1994, however, threatened the club's financial bankruptcy: The former main sponsor TEKA withdrew and henceforth sponsored the football team Real Madrid, so that all players Santander offered termination of the contract in March. The whole team kept Santander closed the loyalty and became the highlight of the club history, the EHF Champions League 1994.

In the next few years the club has helped with financial injections in the region Kantanbrien; from 1995 was called to Caja Cantabria Santander. In 1999 the club the name Club Balonmano Cantabria; short time later the company TEKA rose again as the main sponsor. After a short period as the Racing de Santander, the club is now called Teka Cantabria.

With the beginning of the new millennium Cantabria was increasingly replaced by other clubs such as BM Ciudad Real and SDC San Antonio. Although the club in 2000 moved again to the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup, still the star of Cantabria decreased continually until the 2007 team - as well as another traditional club Bidasoa Irun was athletic descended into the 2nd Spanish League. Only due to the resignation of the license financially strapped BM Altea and thus released starting place in the league it was Santander allowed to remain in the league ASOBAL.
