The icebreaker Louis S. St. Laurent is a ship of the Canadian Coast Guard (Canadian Coast Guard; CCG ). It was named after the twelfth Prime Minister of Canada Louis Saint- Laurent. After the financial planning of the Canadian Government, the ship will remain in operation until 2017, only to be replaced by a 720 million C $ newbuilding, the CCGS John G. Diefenbaker.
The ship
The icebreaker was built in the period 1966 to 1969 in the shipyard Canadian Vickers in Montreal, Canada. His actual applications are the Canadian coastal waters. It is the largest ship in the fleet of the Canadian Coast Guard.
This icebreaker is one of the most important ships of the Canadian Coast Guard. 1976 passed the ship together with the research vessel Canmar Explorer Northwest Passage and put his special abilities. The icebreaker has no modern auxiliary systems such as water flushing, air injection and additional propulsion propeller. In 1988 the ship was modernized and rebuilt. It received a complete new machinery and a new bow shape.
