Cemal ReÅŸit Rey

Cemal Resit Rey ( born October 25, 1904 in Jerusalem; † 7 October 1985 in Istanbul) was a Turkish composer.

After studying piano with Marguérite Long Rey attended from 1914 to 1919, the Geneva Conservatory and studied until 1923 at Raoul Laparra in Paris composition. In 1932 he became professor of piano and composition at the Conservatory of Istanbul. Since 1946 he was conductor of the Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony Society, and from 1949 he worked as head of the music department of Radio Istanbul. He belonged to the Turkish Five, the group of the first professional composer Turkey to the still, Ulvi Cemal Erkin, Ahmet Adnan Saygun and Necil Kâzım Akses include Ferid Alnar except him.

Rey composed several operas and operettas and a revue, two symphonies, two symphonic poems, three symphonic scherzo, three piano, two violin concertos and a cello concerto, piano pieces and choral songs.
