Central do Brasil

The Estação Central do Brasil, shortly Central do Brasil, is a railway station in the center of the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Originally Estação do Campo railway company Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil was built on the site in 1858. After the station now also even officially Estação da Corte was said that she was named in 1898 after his term emperor of Brazil, Dom Pedro II Estação. In 1971 she was awarded by the national railway company Rede Ferroviária Federal, which owns the station after the end of Ferro Central do Brasil in 1969 went, its present official name, which, however, already in common usage found wide use.

International fame reached Central do Brasil Central Station through the film with the original title Central do Brasil, which was nominated for an Oscar in 1999 in two categories ( Best Foreign Language Film and Best Actress ).
