Central German football championship

History

Creation and development

While in the city of Leipzig with the Association Leipzig Ballgame clubs existed since 1896, a local football association and championships fought out, the football was still largely unorganized in the rest of central Germany around 1900. After the founding of the German Football Association had been completed as rich on the governing body of football on January 28, 1900 in Leipzig, decided the Leipzig Ernst Raydt, Theodor Schöffler (VfB Leipzig ) and Bruno Moldenhauer ( Wacker Leipzig), an association for all Central Germany to form associations. On Boxing Day in 1900, the inaugural meeting of the new association in Leipzig Mariengarten took place. The later football metropolis of Dresden was not represented at the founding of the VMBV.

In the period before the First World War, the number of associated clubs grew substantially, over 81 (1906 ), 115 (1908 ) and 315 with 18,600 members in 1910/11 to finally 414 clubs with 27,000 members. Game operation

In the 1901/02 season the dressings German Ballgame clubs organized its first football championship round, the 26 teams were divided into four squadrons participated. By joining always new clubs, the teams were divided into districts whose boundaries had to be adjusted several times. The clubs from Halle, for example, belonged only to the administrative district of North West Saxony (Leipzig and vicinity), but formed from the 1907/08 season with clubs from around the Saalegau. In the season 1913/14, the association area of VMBV was already divided into 20 districts. In the 1920s, the number of districts increased to 27, in the 1927/28 season even at 28 A complete dilution of the playful levels was the result.
