Central Intelligence Organisation

The Central Intelligence Organisation ( German Central News Organization, shortly CIO) is the national intelligence Zimbabwe.

It was founded in 1963 at the direction of Winston Fields, the prime minister of the British colony of Southern Rhodesia, after the dissolution of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. He joined the successor to the Federal Intelligence and Security Bureau, the coordinated policing of British South Africa Police with the North Rhodesia and Njassalands.

The first director of the CIO was Ken Flower, who until 1981 headed the organization from 1964.

The CIO was particularly active during the time of the unilateral independence of Southern Rhodesia 1965-1979. You have been involved in espionage affairs and the infiltration of guerrilla movements. She was accused of being responsible for the 1975 assassination of Herbert Chitepo in Lusaka.

1980 confirmed the President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, Ken Flower as head of the CIO. The CIO was involved in the suppression of the Matabele in the 1980s, and in the 1990s and 2000s she was allegedly involved in the repression of opponents of Robert Mugabe. She is alleged to have covered torture in the 2000s.

Current Director of intelligence is the former Major-General Happyton Bonyongwe.
