Certeju de Sus

Certeju de Sus (deprecated Cierteş; Hungarian Felsőcsertés ) is a municipality in the district of Hunedoara in Transylvania, Romania.

The place is also known as the Hungarian names Csertés and Csertésköz.

Geographical location

The community Certeju de Sus is located in the southern foothills of the Transylvanian Erzgebirge ( Munţii Metaliferi ) west of the Transylvanian Basin ( Podişul Transilvaniei ). At the headwaters of the Certej - a right tributary of the Mureş - and the county road (drum Judetean ) DJ located 761, the site is located about 14 kilometers northeast of the county town Deva ( Deva ) away. History

Certeju de Sus was first mentioned in documents in 1727. However, the history of settlement in the region dates back far longer.
