Cesare Nosiglia

Cesare Nosiglia ( born October 5, 1944 in Rossiglione, Genoa, Italy Province) is Archbishop of Turin.

Life

Cesare Nosiglia studied at the seminary in Acqui Terme Catholic theology and philosophy. On June 29, 1968, he received the sacrament of Holy Orders and was incardinated in the clergy of the diocese of Acqui. Then he sat from 1968 to 1975 his studies in Rome continued and received his licentiate in theology at the Pontifical Lateran University and a licentiate in biblical studies at the Pontifical Biblical Institute and worked at that time as cooperator in the pastoral care of the Roman parish of San Giovanni Battista De Rossi. From 1971 to 1983 he was a member of the National catechetical office of the Italian Bishops' Conference and 1975-1991 curate of the parish of San Filippo Neri alla Pineta Sacchetti. From 1978 to 1980 he was a lecturer in theology at the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm and from 1983 to 1986, first vice-director, from 1986 to 1991 then director of the National catechetical offices. Pope John Paul II awarded him on September 11, 1985 Title Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ).

On July 6, 1991, John Paul II appointed him Titular Bishop of Victoriana and Auxiliary Bishop for the Diocese of Rome, with responsibility for the western sector. He received his episcopal consecration Cardinal Vicar Camillo Ruini on 14 September of the same year in the Lateran Basilica; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Acqui, Livio Maritano, and the retired Bishop of Novara, Aldo Del Monte. As a motto he chose Caritas congaudet Veritati. During the Diocesan Synod of the Diocese of Rome, he held the posts of Generalrelators and the President of the Post-Synodal Commission. On 19 July 1996 he was appointed John Paul II appointed Vice Regent for the Diocese of Rome and gave him the title of Archbishop ad personam. He was also from that date as auxiliary bishop responsible for the pastoral sector east.

On 6 October 2003 he was appointed Bishop of Vicenza, while retaining his title as archbishop.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 11 October 2010 for the Archbishop of Turin. The solemn inauguration ( enthronement ) was held on November 21 this year. Until the inauguration of the new bishop of Vicenza Cesare Nosiglia headed the diocese as Apostolic Administrator. Since the Archdiocese of Turin is traditionally connected with the cardinal bishop's seat, Cesare Nosiglia considered as candidates for the cardinalate.
