Cet mac Mágach

Cet mac Magach [k ʴ et mak ' ma ː ɣax ] is the name of a hero of the Irish province of Connacht, who is often mentioned in the Ulster Cycle of Celtic mythology of Ireland.

Mythology

In the story Scéla mucce Meic Datho ( "The Story of Mac Dathós pig" ), he is at a banquet the opponent of Conall Cernach around the hero bites. The other Ulter present it can be intimidating though, but has to admit defeat when Conall, throws him the severed head of another Connacht warrior, Anlúan to the chest.

As Conall Cernach had an enemy called Mes Gegra off the head and the brain mixed with lime, Cet throws this rock-hard ball to the king Conchobor to the head. The ball gets stuck in the forehead and Conchobor dies soon after from his injuries. This legend is told in Aided Chonchobuir ( " Conchobar's death ").

In one version of Remscéla ( Táin Bó Vorerzählung to Cuailnge ) Compert Con Chulainn ( " Cú Chulainn Conception" ) is Cet, who gives the boy Cu Chulainn his first name Setanta.

About the death CETS in the narrative Aided Cheit maic Magach ( " The Death of Cet mac Magach " ) is reported. His old enemy Conall Cernach punches him in the duel head off, although his opponent Cet has previously severely wounded.
