CFB Halifax

Canadian Forces Base Halifax ( CFB Halifax ) is Canada's naval base situated east of the Canadian Navy and the main base station of the Atlantic Fleet, Atlantic fleet, (also Maritime Forces Atlantic ). It is the largest military base near Halifax, Nova Scotia. Other minor military bases are located in the vicinity of Halifax Harbour.

Military Sites

CFAD Bedford is a large ammunition depot and supply depot which is located near the Navy base in Halifax. The CFS St. John's is a small base located in St. John's in Newfoundland. A large wireless transmitter for the entire Atlantic fleet of the Canadian Navy is the NRS Newport Corner in Brooklyn, Hants County, Nova Scotia. Another transmitter system is the NRS Mill Cove, which is located about 50 km west of Halifax. These two transmitters are operated remotely from the base CFB Halifax. In almost the immediate neighborhood is the Shearwater Heliport. He used to be a Canadian Air Force base now used as a heliport for CFB Halifax and rescue helicopter. At the Heliport today the headquarters of the 12th Wing is stationed. In Stadacona the Canadian Forces Naval Engineering School, the Canadian Forces Naval Operations School, the Air Base Hospital, the Canadian Forces Maritime Warfare Centre and several churches located. In Stadacona is also the Maritime Command Museum.

Housing estates

Accommodation for the personnel stationed located at Windsor Park, a housing development that has built the Department of National Defence ( DND ) to the west of Halifax. In Stadacona are barracks with smaller apartments, which are mainly occupied by young unmarried Marines. Another residential development is located at the Shearwater Heliport.

CFB Shearwater

CFB Halifax has its own military airfield, CFB Shearwater. At the airport the 12th Wing of the Royal Canadian Air Force with several CH -124 helicopters SeaKing is stationed. The 12th Wing operates flights for the Navy. The airfield is located right on the shore close to the Navy base.

Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Halifax

On the base is the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Halifax ( JRCC Halifax ). The JRCC is a rescue coordination center, which by the Royal Canadian Air Force ( RCAF ) and the Canadian Coast Guard ( CCG ) is operated jointly. The coordination center is staffed 24 -hour, 365 days a year and receives emergency calls and coordinates the emergency services.
