Châlette-sur-Loing

Châlette -sur -Loing is a commune with 13,104 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Loiret in the Centre region. It is the administrative seat of the eponymous canton Châlette -sur -Loing in the arrondissement of Montargis.

Geography

Surrounded the town Cepoy in the north, Paucourt in the east, in the southeast Amilly, Montargis in the south, Villemandeur the southwest, Pannes in the west and Corquilleroy in the northwest. By the River Loing and its tributary Solin shipping channels Canal du Loing, Canal de Briare and Canal d' Orléans run through the municipality.

History

In the 9th century, the name Caderaita emerges. In 1065 the place is bestowed with his church to the abbey of Saint -Benoit. From 1285 to 1530 the family Machaut reigns over the place.
