Chalezeule

Chalezeule is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chalezeule is located at 250 m, about 5 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Doubs Valley on the right side of the river, on the northwestern edge of the Jura, in the Jura - edge chain ( Cote ).

The area of ​​3.94 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The Doubs flows with several turns by a maximum of 2 kilometers wide, flat Talniederung. South of the village he enters the narrow valley between the heights of Mont de Bregille ( in the west) and of Montfaucon (in the east ). Along the Doubs always extends the eastern boundary of the municipality. From the river, the municipality's area extends westward across the flat alluvial plain and adjacent steep slope down to the northern foothills of the Mont de Bregille. Here the highest elevation of Chalezeule is achieved with 400 m.

To Chalezeule heard the hamlet of Les Soleils Clairs (350 m ) on the Nordostabdachung of Mont de Bregille on the outskirts of Besançon. Neighboring communities of Chalezeule Thise are in the north, Chalèze in the east, south and Montfaucon in Besançon in the West.

History

In the 12th century Chalezeule is mentioned under the name Calisiola. During the Middle Ages the village belonged to the dominion of Montfaucon. Together with the Franche -Comté it came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

The village church of Chalezeule was built in the 17th century. The Château de la Juive is a former manor house in a park and serves as a restaurant.

Population

With 1232 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Chalezeule one of the smaller communities of the department of Doubs. During the 20th century, the village experienced a continuous population growth due to its proximity to Besancon. Since the early 1960s, the population has doubled.
