The Chamber of Deputies ( Majlis al - Arab Nuwwāb; French Chambre des députés ) is the lower house in the bicameral legislature of Tunisia.

It currently consists of 217 deputies, which form a Constituent Assembly (VV). The Chamber of Deputies is located in the capital Tunis.

History

From 1957 to 2011, the Chamber of Deputies of the former ruling party Constitutional Democratic collection (RCD) has been dominated, which was in 2011, in the wake of the revolution in Tunisia, dissolved 2010/2011. The few approved for election opposition parties had due to the cut on the RCD party election laws no real chance.

On October 23, 2011 took place the first free election in the history of the country with the election to the Constituent Assembly. In this a Constituent Assembly was elected to a term of one year. Thereafter, regular Parliamentary elections are scheduled.

On 22 November 2011, the Constituent Assembly met for the first time. The first session began with the singing of the national anthem and the citation of the first Sura of the Koran to commemorate the victims of Ben Ali 's rule.
