Chambord (Loir-et-Cher)

Chambord is a French municipality with 127 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ). It is located in Canton Bracieux in Blois Arrondissement in the department of Loir -et -Cher in the Centre region. She is especially known for the Château de Chambord.

History

1552 joined the German Protestant princes with the King Henry II of France the Treaty of Chambord. In return for the support of high monetary payments to the French king the kingdom Vicariate of the imperial cities ( and in fact also the Grenzbistümer ) Toul, Verdun, Metz and Cambrai in Lorraine were assured.

Noteworthy is the Renaissance castle, built 1519-1539, which is on the cultural heritage list of UNESCO since 1981. Chambord Castle was built by King Francis I in the 16th century as a hunting lodge and is surrounded by a 5,440 -acre hunting preserve. Since 1949, the park of Chambord is protected as Réserve nationale de chasse et de faune sauvage.
