Champagne fairs

Champagnemessen called the fairs that took place in the Champagne from the High Middle Ages six times a year in different cities.

Exhibitions were held in Troyes, Bar-sur- Aube, Lagny -sur -Marne Provins and six times a year. Undetectable they are from the mid-11th century, in the 12th century it gained importance. In the 13th century it evolved into major hubs for Central Europe. In addition to the trade in goods, the money economy playing on the Champagnemessen an important role, from the mid-13th century it was even more important than trade. Financial transactions were mainly in the hands of the Lombards and Tuscans.
