Champagne (film)

Champagne is a British film directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1928. It is based on a story by Walter C. Mycroft.

Action

To his spoiled daughter Betty - who still wants to marry a man who did not meet his expectations - to teach a lesson, specifies a wealthy champagne producer to be ruined. His daughter moved to France, where they must learn to stand on their own feet, being confronted with the motif of champagne. In the end she convinced her father, who can watch them from the seriousness of their character and intentions.

Background

  • Hitchcock did for this film project that seemed silly, from the beginning no interest on.
  • The author of the story, Walter Mycroft, was a former film critic. In the production company British International Pictures, he served as Production Manager and he wrote the book in addition to Champagne also on the scripts for Alfred Hitchcock's thriller Murder - Sir John intervenes! and the musical episode film Elstree Calling with, in which Hitchcock was one of four directors. Later Mycroft worked as a producer.
  • Gordon Harker, who plays the father of the main character, also played in the Hitchcock films The World Champion, The Farmer's Wife and Elstree Calling supporting roles.
