Chancellor Bay

Bay, also Baja or Beja, was an Egyptian treasurer probably of Syrian origin and lived at the end of the 19th dynasty with which he appears together on various monuments under Pharaoh Siptah.

The Treasurer is even called on objects of the foundation offerings in the funerary temple of Siptah, which seems to point to its exceptional position. In the Great Harris Papyrus, the first describes the chaotic conditions of Egypt, and then the arrival of Ramses III. to praise, a Syrian named, is said to have made Egypt tributary. It is most likely a reference to Bay. After the death Siptah Bay has certainly been ostracized. For him, even a grave in the Valley of the Kings ( KV13 ) has been prepared, but he was never buried there.
