KV13

KV13 Tomb of Bay ( Treasurer)

KV13 is the description of that ancient Egyptian tomb in the Valley of the Kings, which was built for the treasurer Bay. This was at the end of the 19th Dynasty one of the most influential people of Egypt.

Architecture

The grave area is unfinished and consists of a long corridor that led initially to a first hall. It was followed by another passage in which was found a sarcophagus, and at the rear of the actual grave chamber in which another sarcophagus.

The proportions of the tomb are almost identical to those of the tomb of Queen Tausert ( KV14 ), served under the Bay. The decoration is similar. There you will find scenes from the Book of the Dead and representations of the Bay before deities. King Siptah is repeatedly presented in the grave, but it is always Bay, which appears directly in front of the deities.

Occupancy

Bay was never buried in the grave, since he was overthrown at the end of his career. The sarcophagi, found here, including the Prince Amunherchepsef and Montherchepsef. The sarcophagus of Amunherchepsef originally belonged to Queen Tausert.
