East Fork of the Chandalar River in the Brooks Range

The Chandalar River is a 160 km long right tributary of the Yukon River in the northern interior of Alaska.

His source arms originate at the southern slopes of the eastern Brooks Range. It flows to the confluence of the North Fork and Middle Fork to the east, then in a south-easterly direction, passing the town of Venetie and flows about 35 km west of Fort Yukon in the Yukon River.

About 50 km east of the origin of the Chandalar River joins the East Fork from the north into the main river.

The river's name has its origin in the name of French employees of the Hudson 's Bay Company in Fort Yukon for the people living along the river Gwich'in, which meant " nomads ". The transfer of French pronunciation in the English spelling its modern name of " Chandalar " (initially also partly " Chand da larg " written ). The name of the original inhabitants of the river was " Achenchik ".
