Chaohu

Chaohu (Chinese巢湖 市, pinyin Chaohu Shì ) is a county-level city in Hefei in Anhui province.

It has an area of 2,063 square kilometers and has about 880,000 inhabitants. Situated in its territory former residence of Feng Yuxiang (冯玉祥 旧居, Feng Yuxiang Jiuju ) is on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China.

History

Prior to 22 August 2011 Chaohu was a district -free city with 9,423 square miles and approximately 4.5 million inhabitants. It consisted of the Municipality Juchao (居巢 区, Juchao Qū ) and the circles Lujiang (庐江 县, Lujiang Xiàn ), Wuwei (无为 县, Wuwei Xiàn ), Hanshan (含山县, Hanshan Xiàn ) and He (和 县, Hé Xiàn ).

At said day, the prefecture-level city was dissolved and divided among Hefei, Wuhu and Ma'anshan. The former municipality Juchao of Chaohu, Chaohu has been renamed and is the present day county-level city in Hefei.

Administrative Divisions

At the community level, Chaohu six road districts, eleven large municipalities and a community is composed. Seat of the city government is the road district Woniushan (卧牛山 街道).
