Charanga Habanera

Charanga Habanera is a Cuban salsa group.

Career

The group was founded in 1988 by Juan Carlos González. It consisted of young talent in the Art School of Cuba and was directed by popular Cuban style elements from the 1940s and 1950s. Their musical style was originally the Cha -Cha- Cha, Mambo, Bolero and Guaracha. The management of the band first took over José Picayos, which was replaced by David Calzado. Her first song was " De La Habana a Monte Carlo", which was inspired by a guest appearance in Monte Carlo. During this time she appeared on the international stage with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Donna Summer, Barry White, James Brown, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Charles Aznavour, Jerry Lewis, Kool and the Gang and Whitney Houston. In the 1990s, when the new music style of Timba came up, she signed a recording contract with Universal Music Magic and reached with her new modern and danceable music style high popularity. In 1998, she received the award for best band of the year and in the period from 1998 to 1999, she reached high chart entries in the radio and television. Because of disputes within the group came in the 1990s to partially peeling of the tape and start-ups such as Charanga Forever and Dany Lozada y su Timba Cubana. Charanga Habanera had several international tours in Japan, Europe (1996 ), Mexico, Argentina, Peru, United States and North Africa. With their album "Live in the USA", they won the 2003 Latin Grammy award. With the video " Orgullosamente Latino " they won in three categories Best Video, Best Album and Best Group. Meanwhile Charanga Habanera has also taken elements from the Reggaeton.
