Charles Anthony Schott

Carl Anton Schott ( born August 1, 1826 in Mannheim, † July 31, 1901 in Washington, DC ) was a German - American scientist.

Carl Anton Schott graduated in 1847 his engineering studies at the Polytechnic School in Karlsruhe from. The following year he traveled to the USA and worked for the local Land Survey Office. In 1853, Schott was an American citizen. Already in 1856 he was promoted to assistant. Schott was part of the government delegation, August 1869 solar eclipse in Springfield ( Illinois), and in December 1870 observed the eclipse in Cantana ( Sicily).

1898 Schott was a member of the International Conference on terrestrial magnetism in Bristol (England). He was a member of many learned societies, including the National Academy of Sciences, the Washington Academy of Sciences, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He was the author of scientific publications in the fields of hydrography, geodesy, tides, meteorology, and geophysics for the Smithsonian Institute. The Académie française Schott honored with their highest award - a medal for his research in the field of terrestrial magnetism.
