Charles, Duke of Württemberg-Bernstadt

Charles of Württemberg- Bernstadt ( * March 11, 1682 in Juliusburg; † February 8, 1745 in Bernstadt ) was Duke of Württemberg- Bernstadt.

Life

Charles was the only surviving child of the Duke Julius Siegmund von Württemberg- Juliusburg (1653-1684) from his marriage with Anna Sophia (1647-1726), daughter of Duke Adolf Friedrich I of Mecklenburg -Schwerin. To 1704 under guardianship he had become in 1684 the Duke of Württemberg- Juliusburg after the death of his father. He attended the Academy Knights Rudolph Anthony in Wolfenbüttel. After the death of the Duke Sylvius Friedrich II of oil which took over Karl's uncle Christian Ulrich, the Duchy Oels and Karl moved thereby into the part Duchy of Bernstadt. On December 20, 1703, he married in Meiningen Princess Wilhelmine Luise ( 1686-1753 ), daughter of Duke Bernhard I of Saxe- Meiningen. The marriage remained childless.

Karl ruled arbitrary and wasteful. Therefore His councilors turned in 1740 to the Emperor Joseph I, who decreed against the Duke. In 1742, Karl asked his governor to a new wig that was not granted because of " empty Cassa ". He sold the reign Goschütz and also the town hard mountain, the latter to Count Heinrich von Reichenbach- Goschütz ( 1705-1775 ).

Since Charles marriage was childless, Bern city fell after his death to Duke Charles Christian Erdmann of oil which the order who unified all branches of the Silesian Württemberg house on his person.
