Charles Erskine, 21st Earl of Mar

Charles Erskine (* October 19, 1650 in Alloa, † May 23, 1689 ), 22 Earl of Mar, 10th Lord Erskine, de jure 5th Earl of Mar, was a Scottish nobleman.

Life

His father was John Erskine, 21st Earl of Mar, his mother was Jean Mackenzie, a daughter of George Mackenzie, 2nd Earl of Seaforth.

With the death of his father in September 1668, he assumed the title Earl of Mar 22 (first award ) and 10th Lord Erskine. As a successful soldier with the rank of Colonel in 1678, he was one of the founders of the " Royal Scots Fusiliers ", which he then still belonged to 1686. From 1682 onwards he was a member of the Privy Privy Council. The title of 5th Earl of Mar ( seventh award ) was posthumously awarded to him by the " House of Lords Privileges Committe " on 26 February 1875.

By his marriage, closed 1674 with Mary Maule, daughter of George Maule, 2nd Earl of Panmure, he had three sons: Henry ( † April 14, 1707 at the Battle of Almansa ), John ( later Earl 23 ) and James ( later Lord Grange ) and a daughter, Jean.
