Charles Geddes, Baron Geddes of Epsom

Charles John Geddes, Baron Geddes of Epsom CBE (* March 1, 1897 in Southwark, London; † 2 May 1983) was a British trade union leader.

He was born in Southwark in South East London and began in 1911 to work at the post office. During World War II he was a pilot in the Royal Flying Corps and after his return to civilian life he was active in the union Union of Post Office Workers. In 1941 he became Deputy General Secretary of the trade union and 1944-1957 Secretary General. In 1955 he became President of the Trades Union Congress Trades Union Congress.

Geddes was on the board of Polyglass Ltd..

On August 4, 1958, he became the third life peer after the entry into force of the Life peerages Act in 1958 with the title of Baron Geddes of Epsom. In addition, he was Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
