Charles II, Landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal

Charles II of Hesse- Philippsthal ( May 22nd 1803 in Philippstal, † February 12, 1868 ibid ) was out of the house of Hesse, Landgrave of Hesse- Philippsthal.

Life

Charles was a son of the Landgrave Ernst Konstantin von Hessen- Philipp Thal (1771-1849) from his marriage to Louise (1775-1808), daughter of Prince Friedrich Carl of Schwarzburg- Rudolstadt.

Charles followed his father in 1849 as Landgrave of Hesse - Philippsthal, after his older brother Ferdinand had already died in 1839. Karl served as Elector of Hesse Major General à la suite of the army. In 1866, the Electorate of Hesse was annexed by Hesse - Philippsthal of Prussia.

Progeny

Karl married on 9 October 1845 in Carlsruhe Marie ( 1818-1888 ), daughter of Duke Eugen of Württemberg, with whom he had two children:
