Charles Ingalls

Charles Philip Ingalls ( born January 10, 1836 in Cuba, New York, † June 8, 1902 in De Smet, South Dakota) was the father of Laura Ingalls Wilder. He is known as the model for the homonymous character from the series Little House on the books of his daughter.

Life

Ingalls was born as the second of nine children of Landford Whiting Ingalls (1812-1896) and Laura Louise Colby Ingalls ( 1810-1883 ). When he was twelve years old, the family moved to Illinois, then to Wisconsin. There he married on February 1, 1860 Caroline Quiner. They moved together to the west and was followed by numerous moves, so he gave his wanderlust after, his aversion to large cities and there resulting job opportunities. The family moved from Wisconsin to Kansas, back to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and finally in 1879 to the Dakota Territory, where he was a justice of the peace, among other activities. Ingalls died at home at the age of 66 years, after several weeks of illness. He was buried in the De Smet Cemetery.

The Ingalls had five children: Mary, Laura, Carrie, Charles Frederick ( died in the first year of life ) and Grace. The family made ​​famous by the book series of his daughter Laura Little House (OT: Little House on the Prairie). In the series, Charles Ingalls Michael Landon was shown.
