Charles John Brown

Charles John Brown ( born October 13, 1959 in New York, USA) is a Roman Catholic Archbishop and Vatican Diplomat.

Life

Charles Brown studied at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History. He then graduated from the University of Oxford Master of Arts in Medieval Studies, at Saint Joseph 's Seminary in Yonkers, New York, a Master's in Catholic theology and a licentiate in theology at the Catholic Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm in Rome, where he became Dr. theol. doctorate in sacramental theology. On 13 May 1989 he received at St. Patrick 's Cathedral in New York, the sacrament of Holy Orders and was incardinated in the clergy of the Archdiocese of New York. Then he was in the parish of St. Brendan in the Bronx until 1991 Kaplan.

In 1994 he entered the service of the Roman Curia, and was an employee at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. On May 6, 2000, he Pope John Paul II conferred the honorary title of Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ). In September 2009, William Joseph Cardinal Levada appointed him as Assistant Secretary of the International Theological Commission.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 26 November 2011 as Titular Archbishop of Aquileia and Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland. He received his episcopal consecration Benedict XVI. on 6 January 2012 at St. Peter's Basilica; Co-consecrators Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB were Cardinal William Joseph Levada and.

2013 he was appointed by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick O'Brien to the Grand Commander of the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem and invested by Cardinal Seán Brady, Grand Prior of the Order in Ireland, on 18 May 2013.
