Charles Marie Bouton

Charles Marie Bouton ( born May 16, 1781 Paris, † June 28, 1853 in Paris) was a French painter and lithographer.

Life and work

Bouton was a student of Jacques Louis David and Jean Victor Bertin. Through architectural pieces and ruin views, for example from the Colosseum ( "Six Vues intérieures you Colysée " ) in Rome, as well as interiors of churches which also lithographed Bouton, he became known to a wider audience. Were estimated its cleverly chosen perspective and arranged distribution of light and shadow, which led to popular decorative figures to effectively staged scenes.

With Louis Daguerre Bouton invented the diorama. This light effect Theater (now rue de la douane, 10th arrondissement ) is presented for the first time on 11 June 1822 in Paris, Rue Sanson the public. The scene of the two paintings in the format 14 x 22 m were explained by a speaker and additionally accompanied with noises. A tense crowd watched the 10 to 15 -minute performances. In 1830 Bouton announced the partnership and moved to London.

Work

Bouton created views of many churches, including the Cathedral of Chartres and the churches of Paris St- Roch and Saint- Etiene -du -Mont, some for the dioramas were used.
