Charles Philippe Lafont

Charles Philippe Lafont ( born December 1, 1781 Paris, † August 23, 1839 ) was a French violinist.

Life

Charles Philippe Lafont was trained in violin by Rodolphe Kreutzer and Pierre Rode, in the composition by Henry Montan Berton. He went in 1801 to art tours throughout Europe and was appointed in Petersburg by Emperor Alexander I. in 1808 to his first violinist and concertmaster.

Returned to Paris in 1815, he worked there as the first violinist of the royal chapel, and later as first musical companion to the Duchess of Berri. With Franz Liszt he played during his stay in Geneva a duo for piano and violin Grand Duo concertant sur ​​la Romance: " Le Marin " on 3 and 10 January 1835, he played in transit in Magdeburg under Richard Wagner as conductor, two concerts. The violinist Teresa Milanollo (1827-1904) was his pupil.

He had an accident on a trip between Bagneres -de- Bigorre and Tarbes by the fall of the mail car and died as a result, on 23 August 1839.
