Tarbes

Tarbes is a French town and the administrative center of the department of Hautes -Pyrénées in the Midi-Pyrénées region.

Tarbes has 42,888 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) to 15.33 square kilometers and is located on the Adour, and to its here running parallel tributary echez.

The city is since the 4th century seat of the diocese of Tarbes and Lourdes. Tarbes is a local trading center for agricultural products. In the famous stud farm since 1808 are the Tabais, an Anglo- Arabian pure bred. There are also metal-processing operations as well as numerous steel construction company. Furthermore Tarbes is the French army has long been a garrison town.

Several stages of the Tour de France were already Tarbes or had the location as your starting point or destination.

Sports

  • The most famous sports club is Tarbes Pyrénées Rugby, Rugby Union plays and is represented in the French second professional league Pro D2.
  • There are also Tarbes Gespe Bigorre, a basketball club for women, which in Ligue Féminine de Basketball ( LFB ) and plays in the European competitions participates (1996 Ronchetti Cup winner).
