Charles Sands

Charles Edward Sands ( born December 22, 1865 in New York City; † August 9, 1945 in Brookville ) was an American athlete and Olympic athlete versatility. At the Summer Olympics in Paris in 1900, he joined the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews in the Gulf and won the competition on October 4, after four rounds. For 36 holes he needed 167 strokes. At the same time took Sands also participate in tennis competitions, but retired there in both the men's singles and the men's doubles ( with Archibald Warden as a partner ) and Mixed ( with Georgina Jones as a partner ) already in the first round of each.

Eight years later, he participated at the Summer Olympic Games in London at the Jeu de Paume, but different again from the first round.
