Charles Vandeleur Creagh

Charles Vandeleur Creagh CMG ( born October 4, 1842 in Cahirbane, Ballykilty / Clare; † September 18, 1917 ) was a British barrister and colonial governor North Borneo.

Biography

Vandeleur Creagh came from a military family. His grandfather was Major, his father was a captain and died in March 1857. From the marriage of his father with Grace Emily O'Moore emerged ten more children, among them the later General Sir Garrett O'Moore Creagh. Also Vandeleur Creagh and another of his brothers served in the military. He graduated from the Royal Naval School in New Cross and the Eastman 's Royal Naval Academy in Southsea. He also served as a Barrister of the Middle Temple - chamber.

Before he became governor in North Borneo, he was Assistant Resident in Perak. During his governorship from 1888 to 1895, the administration Labuan fell within its remit. In 1890 he was admitted as a Companion in the Order of St Michael and St George.

Vandeleur Creagh was married twice. On June 6, 1882 he married Blanche Francis Edwardes in Kensington. The marriage produced three children, among them the later Rear Admiral James Vandeleur Creagh. In 1867 he married his second wife named Mary. with her he had two more children.
