Château La Tour Blanche

The winery Château La Tour Blanche is located in the municipality Bommes, a part of the Sauternes appellation in the Bordeaux wine region. In the Bordeaux Wine Classification of 1855 it was classified as " Premier Cru " and is ranked second behind Château d' Yquem at that time. The 70 -acre estate has 40 hectares of vineyards and extensive poplar and pine stands. The area falls in the west from the river Ciron.

Of the 40 hectares 36 hectares of AOC Sauternes and 4 hectares for red wine are permitted. The grape varieties are divided 82% to the variety Semillon, 12% Sauvignon Blanc and 6% Muscadelle. The harvest is done by hand in five to six reading passages in order to select the grapes with noble rot. The wine is aged for 20-24 months in new oak barrels. 40,000 bottles are sold every year.

In the years 1992, 1993 and 2000, no wine was bottled because it did not meet the quality standard of the good.

The second wine is called Les Charmilles de Tour Blanche. In addition, wines with the name of Isis, Osiris and Red Wine Cru du Cinquet be marketed.

In 2008 joined next to Château La Tour Blanche still 16 wineries of Bordeaux, including such well-known as Château d' Yquem, Château Olivier and Chateau Suduiraut in a joint project together, with the aim scarcer werdendem vine material tightened own clones.

History

In the last quarter of the 18th century the estate of Mr. Latour Blanche was founded and gave his name to the estate and also still had built manor house known today. Because of the French Revolution, the winery has been overridden to Pierre Pécherie. According to legend, it was still in front of the Château d' Yquem established the first vineyard in Sauternes, the sweet wines. The then German -born owner Frederic Focke, who bought the estate in 1815 is said to have experimented from 1836 with the method of Beerenauslese, as he knew from the large plants from the Rhine. Due to the famous winery of Hardy Rodenstock in 1985 and 1987 suggests that the vintages 1784 and probably even the year 1747 by Château d'Yquem sweet wines were. The authenticity of these bottles, however, doubted. From 1862 the estate of Fockes heritage Maître de Bordeaux and its business partners Merman, a wine merchant was administered.

Called The proprietor, Daniel IFFLA, even Osiris (this name is still on the label), bequeathed the estate in 1909 to the French State on the condition that the state in this area, a wine-growing University of Applied Sciences, the School of Viticulture et d' Oenology de la Tour Blanche built. The estate is still under the administration of the Ministry of Agriculture.
