Chaumont-sur-Loire

Chaumont- sur -Loire is a commune with 1075 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Loir -et -Cher in the Centre region; it belongs to the district of Blois and the Canton of Mont Richard.

The houses of the village of Chaumont stand in a long row along the banks of the Loire. Furthermore, situated on a steep slope, Chaumont castle forms a slot-like statements. The place name is derived from " Calvus Mons ", meaning " bald mountain " is and since 1144 was used in this form until the 15th century.

History

In the Middle Ages Chaumont- sur -Loire belonged to the diocese of Chartres. The Chaumont castle was in the feudal era of great importance for the counts of Blois, but fell by marriage early to the house of Amboise and should remain for five centuries in its possession.
