Chavakacheri (Tamil: சாவகச்சேரி Cāvakaccēri [ tʃa ː ʋəɡət ː ri ː ʃe ], Sinhala: ජාවකච්චේරිය Jāvakaccēriya [ dʒa ː ː ʋəkət ʃe rijə ː ]; Chavakachcheri also ) is a town in Sri Lanka. It is located in the northern province of Jaffna district around 20 kilometers east of the district capital of Jaffna. After the special census of the Sri Lankan census in 2007 the population is 15,478. This Chavakacheri is to Jaffna, the second largest city in the district.

During the civil war in Sri Lanka (1983-2009), the city has been very affected. The city was indeed built by the inhabitants again, yet the population has fallen dramatically.

The name Chavakacheri means " settlement of Javanese " (from cāvakar " Javanese " and Ceri "settlement " ) and refers to the historical trading contacts between Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia.
