Chenel

Chenel is a white grape variety. The new variety was introduced by Christiaan Johannes Orffer and approved in 1974. It is a cross of varieties Chenin Blanc and Trebbiano Toscano ( Ugni Blanc also called ). In South Africa, about 270 acres are planted with this variety (as of 2001). The stock took so since 1996, where still 575 hectares were raised, significantly.

Nevertheless, it is in this variety Pinotage after the second successful new variety from South Africa. The yielding variety Chenel bred for warm climates with intensive irrigation and the associated necessary rot resistance. These conditions are common in South Africa.

The variety Chenel is related to the variety Weldra because they were bred from the same parents mating.
