Cherry Wilder

Cherry Wilder, actually Cherry Barbara Grimm ( born September 3, 1930 in Auckland as Lockett Barbara Cherry, † March 14, 2002 in Wellington ) was a New Zealand science fiction and fantasy author.

Cherry Wilder was born in Auckland on New Zealand's North Island. She attended the Girls High in Nelson Nelson and the University of Canterbury in Christchurch on the South Island. After graduating she worked as a high school teacher and theater director.

In 1954 she moved with her first husband to Newcastle New South Wales in Australia in 1961 with her ​​second husband Horst Grimm (1928 - 1992) to Sydney. She wrote of love and adventure stories for several magazines.

In 1974 her first SF story under the title The Ark of James Carlyle in " New Writings in SF 24". She had the story originally submitted under a male pseudonym, then published them, but under the new pseudonym of Cherry Wilder. For the choice of the name, she said: "At this time I chose the name Wilder, thinking of Laura Ingalls Wilder, Thornton Wilder, and Sir John Wilder of TV's " The Power Game ", played by the late Patrick Wymark " (chose this time I the name of Wilder, and I thought of Laura Ingalls Wilder, Thornton Wilder, and Sir John Wilder from the television series "The Power game", which was played by the late Patrick Wymark ).

Because of their SF stories were very successful, they continued to write science fiction, fantasy later. Overall, she wrote more than fifty short stories and several novels.

In 1976, Wilder and her family to Langen near Frankfurt am Main. In the late 1980s she moved back to New Zealand.
