Chesapeake is a village in the south of Lawrence County in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is 1.5 km ² and had (2000) 842 inhabitants, of which 97.7 % White. The name is identical to an Indian tribe of Virginia.

The village is located about 8.5 km east of the southern tip of Ohio, along the mouth of Symmes Creek into the Ohio River, which forms the southern border to West Virginia here. Directly opposite, Huntington; the two places are connected by a road bridge, the Robert C. Byrd Bridge.

The history of the village goes back on the early years of the Lawrence County ( founded in 1816 ). First was a scattered settlement called Kounston, named after its first settler, George W. Kouns. Today's village and the name goes back to the Central Land Company of West Virginia. This was the land around the mouth of Symmes Creek large area acquired and marketed under this name. 1907 that Chesapeake was finally spun off as a Village. The first bridge across the Ohio was formed in 1926, today's Robert C. Byrd Bridge dates from 1994.
