Symmes Creek

The Symmes Creek is a 113 km long right tributary of the Ohio River in southern Ohio. It drains an area of 925 km ² and is part of the river system of the Mississippi River. The outflow is via the Ohio River and Mississippi River into the Gulf of Mexico.

The Symmes Creek rises about 2 miles northwest of the town of Winchester in Jackson County. Then it flows in a generally southerly direction through the Wayne National Forest and the County's Jackson, Gallia and Lawrence and flows within the community Chesapeake opposite the town of Huntington in the Ohio River. Its main tributaries are the 29 km long sandy Fork Symmes Creek and the 27 km long Black Fork Symmes Creek. The United States Board on Geographic Names 1902 certain the name of the river with Symmes Creek. Throughout its history, he was also named Simms, Big Creek and Symms Creek.
