Chestnut-flanked White-eye

The grate edge Brillenvogel or Rotflanken White-eye is a passerine bird of the family of glasses birds native to East Asia. Its distribution area covers the northeast of China and the southern part of the Far East of Russia. There are no described subspecies.

Appearance

The grate edges White-eye is a small songbird of the order Passeriformes, which can reach a length of 10.0 to 12.0 centimeters. The hood and the back feathers have a bright yellow-green color, the underside is white. Its top is gray, while the lower side and the base are colored pink. The eyes should be large and have a black iris. Distribution area

The breeding areas of rust flanks glasses bird extend across the northeastern China and southeastern Siberia, Primorye region and the area of the Amur and Ussuri. An occurrence in the north of North Korea is also likely. The grate edges White-eye is the northernmost representative of the white-eyes, which are particularly common in southern Asia, Australia and Africa. The stay of birds in the northern breeding areas sometimes is, therefore, only two and a half months.

The wintering areas are in South East Asia, Vietnam, Thailand and southern China. During the turn, the birds can also be observed in Korea. On the islands off the Japanese coast of rust flanks White-eye is very rare.

On the train the birds come together in droves. Even mixed flocks of rust flanks and Japan Brillenvogel can be observed during migration.

Habitat

The grate edge Brillenvogel preferably within its breeding range of deciduous and mixed forests, usually near river banks and floodplains. Here, the species breeds preferred in the willow thickets of river and lakeside. He considers himself to both primary forests and secondary forests. The breeding areas reaches the grate edge Brillenvogel very late, in the territory of the Ussuri about until end of May. During the turn, the birds are to be found in any type of forest areas. The type is in parts quite often, but preferably higher areas of about 1000 meters above sea level.

Inventory and risk

The IUCN classifies the rust flanks White-eye due to its extensive distribution area as a not at risk ( least concern ). Lately, however, a slight population decline of the total population recorded. There are no global inventory estimates, national estimates, however, each of about 10,000 to 100,000 breeding pairs in Russia and China, and from 1,000 to 10,000 individuals on the passage in Korea.
