Winner of the Chicago Film Critics Association Award in the category Best Director ( Best Director). The American Film Critics Association 's annual mid-December with their awards for best film productions and film-makers of the current calendar year known. These are like the Oscars and Golden Globe award from five nominees selected.

The most successful in this category were the U.S. directors Joel Coen, Spike Lee and Martin Scorsese, who could win the award twice each.
