Chico Science

Chico Science, actually, Francisco de Assis França ( born March 13, 1966 in Olinda, † February 2nd 1997 in Recife ) was a Brazilian musician.

Life

Chico Science was with his band Nação Zumbi one of the founders of the Mangue beats, a style that combines the traditional musical forms of the Brazilian Northeast as forró and Maracatú with modern elements such as funk and hip -hop. His music has been influenced, among others, James Brown, Grandmaster Flash and Kurtis Blow.

First, Chico Science was a member of the groups Orla Orbe and Loustal. By 1991, he founded Nação Zumbi and co-authored with Fred 04, the singer of the band Mundo Livre S / A, the Mangue Beat Manifesto Caranguejos Com Cerebros ( " cancers with brain "). On tour through North America and Europe, the band received a lot of attention and was regarded as one of the most innovative Brazilian bands of the 1990s. Chico Science was said to have a strong stage presence. Chico Science & Nação Zumbi took two music albums: Da Lama ao Caos (1994) and Afrociberdelia (1996).

Chico Science died at the age of 30 in a traffic accident in Recife. After his death Nação Zumbi took another four albums.
